Zhou Enlai and Deng Yingchao were great proletarian revolutionaries, steadfast Marxists, and outstanding leaders of the Party and the country. They dedicated their lifelong efforts to the liberation of the Chinese people, the founding of New China, the socialist construction of our country, and the great cause of communism. They were deeply loved by the entire Party, the entire army, and all ethnic groups across the country.
Zhou Enlai and Deng Yingchao spent their youth in Tianjin, where they met, knew each other, fell in love, and embarked on the revolutionary path together, spreading revolutionary ideas and exploring the truth of saving the nation and the people. After the founding of New China, they two have devoted themselves to the work and development in Tianjin, visited and guided the construction of Tianjin for many times, and showed great concern for the people here. They regarded Tianjin as their second hometown and left behind their wills to scatter their ashes in Tianjin, reflecting their deep affection for Tianjin people. In order to commemorate and remember the great achievements and noble moral qualities of Zhou and Deng for generations, the Tianjin Municipal Party Committee and the Municipal Government decided and reported to the Central Committee of the Communist Party of China for approval to establish the Memorial to Zhou Enlai and Deng Yingchao. The leaders of the Party and the country are very concerned about the construction of the Memorial. Jiang Zemin inscribed the name of the Memorial. It took only one year and four months (including civil engineering and exhibition layout) to complete the construction task with high quality and high speed. On February 28th, 1998, on the eve of the 100th anniversary of Zhou Enlai's birth, the Memorial was grandly opened.
